What is the CrossFit Open? Why is it still important? What about the “intramural open?”

1.) Lets start with what is the CrossFit Open?

CrossFit tells us: “The CrossFit Games Open is the largest fitness competition on Earth and an exciting showcase of the CrossFit community. Here, athletes like you, from all around the world, show up and push themselves further than they ever thought possible over a five-week period. Challenges, PRs, and the unknown await.”

For $20 you can compete against the world.

Every Thursday a workout or WOD is release and everyone has until Monday to complete the workout in front of a judge.

That is it, plain and simple!

For most people it is about competing at the local level and having a lot of fun doing so. Ridgeway Athletics hosts “Friday Night Lights” events for each week of the open.

2.) Continuing on that note let us tackle the question: Why the Open is still important?

Simple answer here: it brings the gym community together. It also brings in new gym members and makes everyone feel the competitive spirit. Year after year we see milestones like a first double under or a first muscle up or we see an athlete get a PR on their squat clean and it keeps us coming back for more!

The CrossFit Open is important like family is important.

3.) What about the “intramural open?”

We encourage everyone to officially sign up but we know that won’t always be the case. At Ridgeway Athletics we promote everyone to participate in the workouts! Non-registered members often provide the most energy, fun and support to each Friday Night Lights event!

Get ready! Mark your calendar for Oct. 10 – Nov. 11 and lets have some fun this year!!!
