On August 12, 2017, over 500 CrossFit athletes came together at the Gordon Field House at RIT to compete in the Catalyst Games. From their website, “The Catalyst Games are run by husband and wife Chad and Melissa Curtis and their team from CrossFit Boomtown. Six years ago the Catalyst Games started as what was meant to be a small local competition to benefit a local charity, The Kade Project. Five years later the growth has been incredible. The first and second year were held in the back parking lot at CrossFit Boomtown. Capping out at 150 participants the first year, and closing registration at 200 participants after only 3 weeks of ticket sales the second, Chad and Melissa quickly realized that this was much bigger than a small local competition. Year three and four were held offsite at Nazareth College and the event grew to roughly 400 participants each year. The 2016 event, our fifth annual Catalyst Games was held at Pinnacle Athletic Campus. We changed the format of the event to a team competition and accommodated 516 athletes this year. This was the biggest and best showing yet.”
Well 2017, in my opinion, it was the best year ever. From CrossFit Ridgeway coach Samantha jumping in to sing the National Anthem to the overwhelming support given to ROCovery, it was certainly an event to be remembered. CrossFit Ridgeway fielded two teams this year. The guys “Muscle and Hustle” finished 29th in the men’s RX division. The girls “BILF’S” finished 6th and just missed the final event by one point. More importantly, we all gave 100 percent in our effort to compete against the best. CrossFit Ridgeway would also like to thank all the volunteers at the event and give a special shout-out to Team RWB members that participated and volunteered at the event.
CrossFit Ridgeway is looking forward to being a part of this event next year!
